Chinoiserie Clock - Georgian Style - 14.5in tall
A Chinoiserie decorated Clock from our new range of hand painted clocks. The solid cherry case is first black lacquered and burnished before being individually hand painted by a skilled artist. The fine decorative detail is achieved by adding layers of gesso, gold leaf and the final artwork – the decoration of each clock takes the artist two weeks to complete. Chinoiserie became popular in the 18th century and reflected a fascination with oriental art and culture and often made use of ancient oriental motifs such as dragons, pagodas, birds and mandarins. English furniture makers such as Thomas Chippendale came under the spell of this art form and it’s popularity spread through Europe and America. The inverted bell top case, a classic English design, features hand cut fretwork on the door. The brass dial has a silvered chapter ring, cherub spandrels and a central etched motif. The polished triple chime mechanical movement has a 9 jewel platform escapement with an automatic night silencer and chime sequence correction and can be set to play 3 different melodies - Westminster, Whittington or St. Michael.
A collector’s clock of exceptional quality limited to 50 pieces per annum. Each piece has an engraved plate with an individual number and a certificate of authenticity. The price shown includes delivery and installation on mainland Britain, a 2 year guarantee and the benefit of our Lifetime Support promise.
