Basket Top Clock with Triple Chime Movement - mahogany - 11 1/2in
This basket top mantel clock is based on a very early design that was first introduced by Joseph Knibb, circa 1675, during the reign of King Charles II. Its manufacture in mahogany, circa 1740, began as this 'new hardwood' became available in England. Made by Comitti of London using their vast wealth of traditional skills, the finest components and an up to date, trouble free triple chime movement it can rightly be described as a true work of art. Decorated with curl veneers the solid mahogany case houses a polished triple chime movement with a Swiss 9 jewel platform escapement, that can play Westminster, Whittington and St Michael melodies. It has an automatic night silencer (if you like it quiet at night) and chime sequence correction (you won't need a clockmaker to reset your clock if you move it). The brass face features 'antiqued' cherub spandrels, a silver plated chapter ring, a central etched motif and finely milled period hands. The case is fitted with bevelled glass on all sides and all the fittings are lacquered brass.
