Marine 'Gimbal' Mercury Barometer - mahogany
A Marine Gimbal mercury barometer, circa 1840 - often referred to as 'The Ship Of The Line' marine barometer. It has a solid mahogany case and is inlaid with a black edgeline. It has two silver plated dials; the top one has a Vernier slide, for the barometer readings, whilst the lower has a spirit thermometer with a C & F scale. The 'Gimbal' alows the barometer to remain vertical even in rough seas. A barometer of outstanding quality that would grace any home (or yacht) and also provide a reliable local forecast.
