Carriage Clocks.
As their name implies, Carriage Clocks were originally designed as travelling clocks. The horological achievements of the early 19th century – led by Abraham Louis Breguet (1747-1823) one of France's foremost clockmakers - with the development of the revolutionary lever escapement, allowed the great French, English and Swiss clockmakers to create timepieces that were compact, accurate and robust enough to stand up to the rigours of travel by carriage.
Types Of Carriage Clock. The carriage clocks we offer include quartz and 8 day mechanical movements, which are wound by hand. The more complex movements have additional functions, as did the originals of the early 1800’s – these include a strike, a repeater, an alarm, a calendar and the moonphases.
